About the position

The Executive Director of Information Technology at Santa Barbara City College is responsible for providing strategic leadership and practical oversight for the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the district-wide information services and technology applications. This role ensures that technology supports academic, student services, and business operations in alignment with the District's Mission and Vision. The Executive Director will lead the Information Technology division, manage technology infrastructure, and oversee project management services to enhance the institution's technological capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, and manages the Information Technology division.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains the District's Technology Plan.
  • Provides leadership in the development and management of a secure communications network infrastructure.
  • Develops communication tools for informing the campus community about IT services.
  • Oversees the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of technology systems and applications.
  • Coordinates with senior management to oversee instructional technology services.
  • Ensures the delivery of quality technology and support through effective needs assessment.
  • Oversees the installation and maintenance of standards-based technology.
  • Provides leadership and coordination of project management services.
  • Facilitates technology improvements by identifying priorities and developing strategies.
  • Reviews and recommends contracts and services for information technology and related services.
  • Works with the Executive Director of Institutional Research to facilitate District MIS reporting.
  • Provides counsel to the Superintendent/President and Board of Trustees regarding technology capabilities and needs.
  • Participates in the district's long-range strategic planning and development of action programs.
  • Develops and maintains budgets for all areas assigned.
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates all assigned personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, business information management, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Eight years of full-time equivalent professional information technology experience, including at least four years managing technical staff.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of a diverse academic and cultural community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Experience working with Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS) systems.
  • Experience in an institution of higher education, preferably a community college.
  • Experience facilitating large-scale stakeholder engagement for enterprise-level technology roadmaps.
