About the position

The Executive Director of Market Risk in the Commodities division is a senior leadership role based in New York, responsible for overseeing market risk management for various commodity products, with a primary focus on North American power and gas. This position involves extensive collaboration with trading teams, risk functions, and IT, emphasizing day-to-day risk management, scenario analysis, and stress testing. The candidate will lead a team of risk managers and ensure effective communication and risk representation across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze structured transactions and complex client trades in commodities markets, providing necessary approvals.
  • Lead the commodities market risk team, proactively strategizing risk analyses of structured transactions.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with commodities trading desks regarding trading strategies and risk representation.
  • Collaborate with the trading desk, risk infrastructure team, and market risk technology to ensure timely and accurate risk management.
  • Escalate key risks to management with relevant ad-hoc analysis promptly.
  • Work with the MRD commodities coverage team to implement CCAR level shocks and related analyses.
  • Manage and lead a small team of junior analysts and associates.

Requirements

  • Experience in commodities market risk management, particularly in North American Power & Gas markets.
  • Advanced degree in economics, finance, or engineering.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for delivering clear risk presentations to senior management.
  • Familiarity with VaR calculations, stress testing, and scenario analysis for commodity products.
  • Attention to detail and strong project management skills.
  • Good judgment of risks and understanding of commodities markets, especially power & gas.
  • Strong quantitative and technical skills (e.g., SQL, R, Matlab, Excel).
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and analytical thinking.
