About the position

At Bristol Myers Squibb, the Executive Director of Marketing & Talent Excellence plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of marketing within the organization. This position is designed for a dynamic leader with extensive marketing expertise and a vision for developing a best-in-class marketing organization. The Executive Director will be responsible for implementing core marketing principles and standards that align with the evolving landscape of healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing. This includes addressing increased competition, regulatory challenges, and the importance of health equity, while also leveraging advances in technology and data to engage customers effectively. The Executive Director will lead the development of the bespoke BMS Marketing Quotient framework, ensuring a consistent approach across the company to drive customer behavior change and enable patients to receive appropriate therapies. This role requires a strategic mindset to influence and lead the enterprise-wide marketing organizations, fostering an environment that promotes talent development and career growth for marketers at BMS. In addition to marketing strategy, the Executive Director will focus on identifying critical skills for marketers across various roles, establishing structured job profiles, and articulating clear career journeys. The goal is to create a learning organization that captures best practices and integrates them into future brand strategies. This includes developing a comprehensive curriculum for ongoing learning and a robust onboarding program for new marketing hires. The Executive Director will also be responsible for creating a proactive communication plan to share the phased development and implementation of marketing excellence initiatives across the company. This role requires collaboration with senior leaders across multiple functions, including Marketing, Training, HR, Medical, Access, Analytics, and Legal, to ensure alignment and drive change management effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Build and shape the company-wide commercial organization into a best-in-class marketing organization by expanding the Marketing Quotient framework.
  • Develop a talent skills-based approach to focus on shaping talent that evolves with the changing market.
  • Establish structured job profiles and articulate career journeys for marketers.
  • Create a learning organization that shares best practices and captures launch learnings for future brands.
  • Build a curriculum that includes live and on-demand learning programs for marketers.
  • Develop a proactive communication plan to share the phased development of marketing excellence across the company.
  • Design a governance model to embed marketing rigor and talent assessment.
  • Implement a change management approach that integrates seamlessly into marketers' ways of working.

Requirements

  • Over 15 years of healthcare/pharmaceutical/biotech commercial marketing experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of marketing experience across various therapeutic areas.
  • Experience in change management and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Strong ability to interface with senior leadership, including CEO and CCO levels.
  • Demonstrated capability in creative thinking and capability building.
  • Deep knowledge of customers, competition, and regulatory landscape.
  • Experience in developing talent and designing training programs.
  • Strong grasp of business and marketing fundamentals.
