About the position

The Executive Director for GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic is responsible for leading the organization in achieving its mission of providing clean, affordable solar power to low-income communities. This role involves strategic leadership, organizational management, fundraising, and advocacy, ensuring the affiliate's sustainability and alignment with GRID's national goals. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and national leadership to stabilize and grow the organization, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, onboard, support, manage, and develop a diverse staff.
  • Practice inclusive leadership and advance the organization's equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives.
  • Manage the finances of the GRID affiliate, including budget preparation and expenditure management.
  • Lead fundraising efforts to ensure organizational sustainability.
  • Deliver on the organizational mission in a timely and high-quality manner.
  • Establish the vision for the GRID affiliate in alignment with GRID's Strategic Plan.
  • Grow GRID's presence and policy influence in the affiliate region.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of senior/executive management and leadership experience.
  • Strong commitment to GRID's mission of advancing economic and environmental justice through renewable energy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing and motivating a diverse team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain systems for organizational effectiveness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous non-profit management experience.
  • Connections to affordable housing and low-income advocacy organizations in Washington, DC metro area.
  • Knowledge of solar energy development and/or construction.
  • Experience with trauma-informed and restorative justice practices.
