About the position

The Executive Director of the National Center for Narrative Intelligence (NCNI) will lead a newly established interdisciplinary research hub focused on the strategic application of narratives in the digital age, particularly in relation to national security and workforce development. This role involves developing partnerships across academia, industry, and government to advance research and policy in narrative intelligence, while also managing the center's operations and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to support NCNI growth.
  • Collaborate with the DoD NCNI Governance Board and University of Mississippi leadership to establish policies and long-term objectives.
  • Represent NCNI at conferences, workshops, and media engagements as a subject matter expert in narrative intelligence.
  • Oversee NCNI activities, including research initiatives and workforce development programs.
  • Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations in all NCNI activities.
  • Mentor and lead a high-performing interdisciplinary team of experts.
  • Create and sustain a collaborative and inclusive working environment.
  • Establish systems for evaluating staff performance and program effectiveness.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to promote NCNI's mission and foster partnerships.
  • Serve as the key contact between NCNI staff and University of Mississippi leadership.
  • Advocate for narrative intelligence in national security through public engagements and research publications.
  • Lead efforts to secure funding through grants and partnerships.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., national security, military studies, public policy, political science, communications).
  • Minimum of 7 years of senior leadership experience in government, military, nonprofit, or academic sectors, focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Expertise in information warfare, psychological operations, national security policy, or narrative intelligence.
  • Proven experience in financial management, including budget oversight for large-scale projects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience in public speaking and media relations.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with grant writing and securing funding for research initiatives.
  • Familiarity with digital technologies and their impact on narrative intelligence.
