About the position

The Executive Director of Communications and Marketing at the McCourt School of Public Policy plays a pivotal leadership role, serving as a strategic adviser to the Dean and a steward of the School's reputation. This position is integral to the McCourt School's mission of moving bold ideas to action and involves regular collaboration with key campus and external partners. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies that align with the strategic goals of the School, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and visibility. In this role, the Executive Director will advise the Dean and other McCourt leaders on communications strategy, including narrative development and crisis communications. The position requires a strategic mindset to conceptualize and align goals with the School's mission, while also serving as the primary contact for key external partners such as funders, think tanks, and alumni. The Executive Director will oversee the execution of a strategic communications plan, ensuring message discipline and representation of the diverse voices within the McCourt community. Additionally, the Executive Director will work closely with an outside firm to redefine and promote the McCourt School's brand, contributing to marketing strategies and overseeing the production of marketing materials. This includes managing the School's online presence and ensuring that faculty visibility is enhanced through effective digital strategies. The role also involves conceptualizing and executing thought leadership events that engage students and the broader policy community, integrating these events into the McCourt narrative. The Executive Director will report directly to the Dean of the McCourt School and will manage a team responsible for strategic communications and events, collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to align their work with the School's mission and narrative.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic adviser to the Dean and a steward of the McCourt School's reputation.
  • Develop and execute a strategic communications plan that aligns with the overall strategic goals of McCourt.
  • Advise the Dean and other McCourt leaders on communications strategy and messaging.
  • Oversee the team responsible for executing the communications plan, ensuring message discipline and audience identification.
  • Collaborate with external partners including funders, think tanks, and alumni to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Serve as the primary contact for key campus partners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of McCourt's branding and marketing strategies.
  • Manage the production of marketing materials and oversee the School's online presence.
  • Conceptualize and execute thought leadership events for students and the broader policy community.
  • Measure success across all aspects of the communications plan, including media relations and digital engagement.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience in strategic communications with increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to sustained strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate and integrate the work of multiple internal and external partners.
