Rice University's Office of Transformational Technology and Innovation is seeking an Executive Director of Data Science and Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) to play a pivotal role in developing and deploying innovative technology solutions. This position is central to our mission of leveraging cutting-edge technologies and data-driven insights to enhance the University's educational, research, and operational functions. The Executive Director will define the group's strategy for utilizing machine learning practices to optimize and enhance campus operations. This role involves overseeing the definition of best-in-class model development and automation, representing a unique opportunity to influence the future of technology and innovation at Rice University. The Executive Director will foster an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in serving our campus community. This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. The typical schedule is three days in-office and two days remote per week, with the understanding that work arrangements may be subject to change per Rice policy. The Executive Director will be responsible for championing the vision for data science and machine learning operations within Rice's Office of Operations, Finance, and Support (OF&S), leading a dynamic team dedicated to transforming how we use data and technology to create impactful products and services for the campus community. In this leadership and hands-on role, the Executive Director will craft and execute comprehensive strategies for developing and applying advanced analytics, machine learning models, and operational frameworks that align with OF&S's objectives for innovation and service excellence. The position requires collaboration with various offices to ensure the development of models that adhere to governance and software engineering best practices, as well as supervising all aspects of machine learning model development and deployment. The Executive Director will also set and measure benchmarks, KPIs, and OKRs for machine learning operations excellence, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation in data management, model development, and deployment strategies.
