About the position

Serves as the primary corporate finance and accounting liaison to the physician practice enterprise of WakeMed Health & Hospitals, a 1,003-bed private, not-for-profit health care system with over 175 physician practice locations and nearly 1,000 employed physicians and advanced practice providers.

Responsibilities

  • Direction of key financial functions of the WakeMed physician practice enterprise, including physician compensation modeling, forecasting, capital planning, month-end variance analysis, business cases, and Certificates of Need.
  • Management of a team responsible for coordinating and reporting financial results to corporate finance and accounting, as well as the respective enterprise executives, management team, and staff.
  • Maintenance and updates of statistics, account assignments, and statistical relationships for the enterprise and clinical service lines across the health system.
  • Benchmarking and productivity coordination for the enterprise.
  • Collaboration with peers for forecasting, long-range planning, clinical service line reporting, and cost accounting for the enterprise.
  • Planning and organization of activities for personnel related to routine processes and standard work.
  • Leadership within financial planning and the finance division as a whole.
  • Understanding of general operational functions as well as financial functions, including charges, reimbursement, payments, costs, and process functionality.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, peers, key stakeholders, and data stewards to ensure accurate and comparative information is available in reports and dashboards.
  • Participation in task forces and study groups with the CFO and other senior executives to analyze and evaluate opportunities and challenges.
  • Utilization of the Wake Way behaviors to work collaboratively with other leaders, peers, and staff.
  • Ensuring that all reports, projects, and deliverables are reviewed and within corporate financial standards.
  • Collaboration with the corporate finance and accounting departments on all projects and reports being developed for the health system.
  • Maintenance of an atmosphere of professionalism within the company through training, motivation, meetings, discussions, and counseling direct reports as needed.
  • Establishment of department policies, procedures, and documentation of standard work.
  • Participation on leadership committees and process improvement initiatives for the health system.
  • Participation in community events that are planned in the WakeMed market as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field required.
  • 10 years of accounting/finance experience in financial management in healthcare required.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field preferred.
  • 12 years of accounting/finance experience in financial management in healthcare preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in large multi-specialty physician practices (500+ providers) preferred.
