The Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Operations plays a pivotal role in leading revenue cycle operations, which includes coding and charge capture, billing and collections, and registration services. MCW has been recognized as a national leader in revenue cycle operations and is consistently ranked in the top decile by Vizient Clinical Practice Solutions Center. The incoming Executive Director will lead a dedicated and experienced team of professionals to strategically position the organization for further efficiencies and growth related to the capture, management, and collection of patient service professional fee revenues. The Executive Director will direct and coordinate the efforts of professional services revenue cycle staff in managing clinical revenue-producing activities for one or more Group Practices. This role involves developing departmental best practices and policies related to professional services billing activities, evaluating and advising on revenue enhancement opportunities, and representing professional services revenue cycle in Epic Optimization efforts with Health System Partners. The Executive Director will also be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that will deliver key performance metrics such as cash collections yield of 100% NPSR, reduction in percent of A/R over 90 days old, and incremental net revenue enhancement. Maintaining key relationships with Practice leadership, clinical department chairs, and MCW administration is crucial to ensure that customer needs are met. The Executive Director will develop effective monitoring systems to assure standards of performance are met, operating and budget objectives achieved, and adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures of MCW and regulatory agencies. This position also involves motivating and leading a high-performance management team, attracting and retaining required members, and providing mentoring as a cornerstone to the management career development program. The Executive Director will leverage technology as a competitive advantage and present monthly operational performance benchmarking reporting for senior leadership and key partners. Additionally, the role includes championing a proactive customer experience for every patient-facing revenue cycle function and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through training and development activities of all staff and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead revenue cycle operations including coding and charge capture, billing and collections, and registration services.
  • Direct and coordinate the efforts of professional services revenue cycle staff in managing clinical revenue-producing activities for one or more Group Practices.
  • Develop departmental best practices and policies related to professional services billing activities.
  • Evaluate and advise on revenue enhancement opportunities, long range planning, new clinical programs/strategies, and regulatory actions.
  • Represent professional services revenue cycle in Epic Optimization efforts with Health System Partners.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to deliver key performance metrics such as cash collections yield of 100% NPSR and reduction in percent of A/R over 90 days old.
  • Maintain key relationships with Practice leadership, clinical department chairs, and MCW administration to ensure customer needs are met.

  • Build on succession planning efforts through the development of short and long-term succession plans.
  • Identify key operational metrics and areas for ongoing focus and additional efficiencies.
  • Champion proactive customer experience for every patient-facing revenue cycle function.
  • Further a culture of continuous improvement through training and development activities of all staff and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration; Health, Policy, and Administration or equivalent required.
  • Twelve (12) years of demonstrated hands-on success with progressive growth in responsibilities and breadth and depth of experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of professional services revenue cycle operations best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in a vital leadership position in a large academic medicine multi-specialty group practice or large complex medical group.
  • Experience and knowledge of clinical operations to manage revenue cycle processes initiated by clinical operations across the organization.
  • Experience working in Epic Resolute PB is required.
  • Excellent analytical and information system knowledge.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of physician coding, reimbursement systems, and revenue cycle, including governmental regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with bundled payment methodologies and other alternative reimbursement models.
  • Outstanding communication skills and strategic orientation.
  • Customer-focused and committed to transparency of the revenue cycle.
  • Commitment to execution and results-oriented.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's in Business Administration or Master's in Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Epic resolute PB Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Coding Certification (RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, or CDIP) strongly preferred.
  • Certification through HFMA, AAHAM, and/or MGMA is preferred.
