About The Position

The Executive Director of Special Services is responsible for directing and managing the district's special education program, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local requirements. This role involves overseeing psychological services, implementing individualized education plans, and ensuring effective delivery of special education services to meet the needs of all students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Texas Mid-management or other appropriate Texas certification
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education law
  • Understanding of the individual needs of special needs students
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of special needs students and their parents
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Five years of teaching experience in special education
  • Experience as an educational diagnostician or other special services professional preferred
  • Prior administrative experience in special education

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and delivery of special education curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Develop and implement an effective special education referral process.
  • Monitor the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) process districtwide.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings to gauge special education program effectiveness.
  • Ensure necessary resources and technology are available to support educational goals.
  • Direct transition services for special education students.
  • Participate in district-level decision-making processes regarding goals and objectives.
  • Oversee special education staff development programs.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law and local board policy.
  • Develop and administer the special education budget.
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in the special education department.
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate special education staff.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with community members and agencies.
