About the position

The Executive Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) at Metropolitan State University of Denver is a key administrative role responsible for overseeing compliance with Title IX, Title VII, ADA/504, and other civil rights regulations. This position reports directly to the University's General Counsel and manages the OEO staff, ensuring effective implementation and monitoring of equal opportunity initiatives across the university.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the University's Title IX Coordinator and supervise a civil rights/Title IX investigator.
  • Oversee the complaint process to ensure prompt, effective, and compliant procedures regarding complaint intake, supportive measures, informal resolution, and formal resolution processes.
  • Review and update University policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Title IX laws and regulations.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping of all actions taken during the complaint process.
  • Monitor the number and outcomes of complaints to identify patterns and assess the effectiveness of reporting and response efforts.
  • Provide oversight, training, and leadership for all Title IX initiatives.
  • Implement and oversee university-wide training and prevention programs related to Title IX for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop and distribute written materials to disseminate information regarding the University's Title IX policies.
  • Work with campus partners to facilitate an inclusive and safe campus environment.
  • Serve as the point person for all Title IX complaints and primary contact for government inquiries from the Office for Civil Rights.
  • Identify and integrate best practices in Title IX training and investigations into university practices.
  • Maintain an effective and up-to-date website regarding Title IX information.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding harassment, discrimination, and retaliation based on protected classifications.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of university-wide training for staff and faculty related to non-discrimination and anti-harassment laws.
  • Ensure timely completion of the annual Affirmative Action Program in collaboration with other departments.
  • Review and revise University policies to ensure compliance with equal opportunity laws.
  • Act as the primary 504/ADA compliance coordinator, advising on compliance with regulations regarding access and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
  • Oversee the grievance/complaint process related to ADA/504 compliance and ensure proper record-keeping of actions taken.

Requirements

  • Experience in higher education administration or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, ADA/504, and civil rights regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs related to equal opportunity and compliance.

  • Experience working with diverse populations and first-generation students.
