About the position

The Executive Director of Systems, Operations and Strategy (Chief of Staff) at Mott Community College will serve as a trusted advisor and principal aide to the College President. This role involves providing comprehensive advice, support, and leadership on a wide range of institutional matters. The Executive Director is tasked with handling complex situations for the President, leading various strategic initiatives, and representing the President as needed. This position requires a close working relationship with the President to develop recommendations that consider sensitive and sophisticated relationships, often balancing divergent demands and reactions. In addition to advising the President, the Executive Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the President's office, ensuring a customer service-focused vision is articulated and implemented. The role includes supervising the Board Relations Coordinator, Executive Assistant, and Work Study Students. Responsibilities are categorized into four main areas: advising and assisting the President, providing administrative leadership to the President's office, coordinating Board of Trustee interactions and meetings, and representing the President as required. The Executive Director will also focus on building and maintaining relationships both on and off-campus, identifying resolutions for operational and strategic process gaps that enhance employee and student success. The Executive Director is expected to lead by example, embodying the college's mission, vision, and values, particularly focusing on the Mott Community College 3 Cs: Employee Commitment, Student Commitment, Civility, and Compliance. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the President's office operates efficiently and effectively, contributing to the overall success of the college's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and assist the President on institutional matters.
  • Supervise and provide administrative leadership to the President's office.
  • Coordinate all Board of Trustee interactions, development, and meetings.
  • Represent the President as required in various capacities.
  • Handle complex situations and special projects as assigned by the President.
  • Cultivate and implement a customer service-focused vision for the President's office.
  • Build and maintain relationships on and off-campus to improve employee and student success.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in a similar organization.
  • Demonstrated track record of success related to institutional priorities and goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including high-level writing skills.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Juris Doctor or doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Senior administration experience in a higher education setting.
  • Understanding of community college governance and operations.
  • Prior experience working with a college Board of Trustees.
  • Experience with collective bargaining units.
