About the position

The Executive Director will lead Portland Jobs with Justice (JwJ) in advocating for workers' rights and economic justice, focusing on racial and gender justice. This role involves strategic vision development, relationship building, resource management, and consensus building among diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals. The Executive Director will supervise staff, manage fundraising efforts, and represent the organization in various forums.

Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise staff, including hiring, evaluating, and terminating as appropriate.
  • Lead ongoing organizational planning to support staff work plans and goal setting.
  • Develop the organization's annual budget and fundraising plan in coordination with staff and the Board.
  • Raise the annual budget with support from organizational leaders and staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with foundations and major donors.
  • Manage grant proposals and reports, ensuring financial compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Manage relationships and communication with the Board, supporting Board Co-Chairs in planning meetings and delegating responsibilities.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing Portland JwJ to various stakeholders.
  • Work with staff and partner organizations to develop campaign and programmatic plans and strategies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of relevant, paid experience in a leadership position at a nonprofit organization.
  • Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to connect with diverse partners.
  • Strong commitment to worker justice and understanding of the labor movement.
  • Ability to promote an intersectional social justice framework.
  • Experience creating an equitable and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing campaign and program strategy and managing campaigns.
  • Strong managerial skills and ability to implement an organizational vision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and organizational needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide oversight for finances and record-keeping.
  • Possession of a reliable/insured vehicle and valid driver's license.
