About the position

The Executive Director (ED) of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence will lead the organization in its mission to eliminate domestic violence in California. This role requires a strategic leader with a commitment to racial and social justice, who will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders to drive the development of intersectional alliances and advocate for effective policies and practices. The ED will oversee all agency functions, including governance, programs, communications, human resources, finances, and fundraising, while fostering a culture of belonging and healing within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a leader in building the movement to end domestic violence and strategically promote its advancement.
  • Implement strategic initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of California's support network for domestic violence victims.
  • Provide leadership for the Partnership's legislative and policy agenda, positioning the organization as a statewide expert on domestic violence policy issues.
  • Oversee the provision of support and technical assistance to the statewide network of domestic violence organizations.
  • Develop programs core to the Partnership's mission and ensure compliance with grants and contracts.
  • Act as the principal liaison to the Board of Directors, supporting their engagement and ensuring effective governance.
  • Supervise and coach Senior Directors and oversee the development of all staff members.
  • Engage and mobilize the community to become active members of the Partnership and its movement.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and implement the Partnership's strategic plan.
  • Manage the annual budget and ensure proper financial practices are followed.
  • Ensure sufficient revenue generation through diverse funding sources and engage the Board in fundraising efforts.
  • Serve as the primary representative for all internal and external communications.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Partnership's mission with lived or professional experience centering victims and survivors.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in organizational leadership, ideally in a nonprofit setting related to domestic violence or social justice.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in budget management and fundraising, supporting organizational sustainability at a scale of $5 million or more.
  • Direct experience working with coalitions or membership organizations, preferably in statewide coalition work for violence against women.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and advocate for diverse stakeholders, including members, community, funders, and government.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining programming across domestic violence prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice and culturally responsive work.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing and presentation abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with public policy and advocacy related to domestic violence or social justice issues.
  • Familiarity with media engagement and public representation.
