About the position

The Executive Director provides statewide leadership for the Society, acting as the primary liaison between the PRPS Board of Directors and the staff. This role is responsible for guiding staff and resources in alignment with the Board's strategic goals and values, promoting cooperative partnerships, and advocating for the parks, recreation, and conservation sectors. The Executive Director is accountable for various functions including governance, administration, finance, training, advocacy, communications, and partnerships, while ensuring the effective operation of the PRPS office in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the mission, vision, values, and strategic plans of the Society in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Update the Employee Policy Manual and financial policies for effective stewardship of resources.
  • Inform the Board about trends in governance and implement strategic plans accordingly.
  • Support and lead the Finance, Membership, Governmental Affairs, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committees.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise all staff, including setting job descriptions and compensation.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and facilitate professional growth for staff.
  • Develop the annual budget and manage financial reporting and compliance.
  • Supervise a comprehensive education and training program for PRPS members.
  • Oversee communications and marketing strategies, including print and electronic media.
  • Engage with members and partners to develop strategic relationships and alliances.
  • Supervise the technological infrastructure of PRPS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Certified Park Recreation and Professional (CPRP) or equivalent experience in Parks and Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • More than 10 years of successful experience in governmental, nonprofit, or entrepreneurial roles, preferably in parks and recreation.
  • Proven leadership in developing organizational capacity and collaborations.
  • Strong fundraising and marketing experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in strategic planning and public advocacy.
