About the position

The Executive Editor at the Casper Star-Tribune is responsible for leading and inspiring local journalism while fostering relationships with the community. This hands-on role involves planning and strategizing content, editing, reporting, and engaging readers across various digital platforms and a print edition. The editor will also establish a local editorial board, lead weekly meetings, and shape the publication's voice on key issues affecting Casper and Wyoming.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire the newsroom team to produce high-quality journalism.
• Plan and strategize content for digital and print platforms.
• Edit articles and engage in reporting as needed.
• Build and maintain a local editorial board with community representatives.
• Lead weekly editorial meetings to discuss key issues and shape the publication's voice.
• Foster relationships with readers and the local community.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior editorial role, preferably as an editor or managing editor.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop journalists.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Experience in digital journalism and content strategy.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with local issues and community engagement strategies.
• Experience in sports journalism, particularly high school and collegiate sports.
