About the position

The Executive Editor for the Calendar and Gift program at Workman Publishing is a pivotal role that combines editorial expertise with business acumen. This position is responsible for acquiring new titles, managing complex projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance the program's offerings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in illustrated and gift publishing, with a focus on developing new programs and maintaining relationships with authors and agents.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Publisher and Associate Publisher to identify opportunities and develop offerings for the calendar and gift program
  • Edit 15-20 calendar titles per year
  • Meet with agents, authors, illustrators, and in-house sales, marketing, and editorial staff to pitch and hear about calendar and gift ideas
  • Make deals and negotiate contracts
  • Manage an editor and an assistant
  • Collaborate with design, managing editorial, sales, and other departments as necessary to meet deadlines
  • Present at in-house meetings including Acquisitions, Launch, and Sales Conference

Requirements

  • Minimum ten years of experience in illustrated and/or gift publishing
  • A thorough understanding of the overall publishing process
  • Expertise in both line editing and conceptual editing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Established contacts in the publishing industry
  • Proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
