About the position

The Executive Team Leader (Assistant Store Manager) position at Target is designed for individuals who are eager to lead and inspire teams in a dynamic retail environment. This entry-level role, starting in Summer 2025, offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills while ensuring an exceptional guest experience. As an Executive Team Leader, you will be responsible for creating a guest-obsessed culture that prioritizes customer satisfaction and drives store sales. You will engage in various responsibilities that include managing a team of hourly team members, setting business strategies, and ensuring that the store meets its operational goals. In this role, you will gain knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience in building and managing a guest-first team culture across the store. You will be involved in recruiting, selecting, and managing talent, as well as planning and executing department workloads to support business priorities. Your day-to-day activities will include engaging in meaningful development conversations with team leaders, personalizing recognition for team members, and establishing a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, as you will need to quickly respond to any negative guest experiences and ensure that your team feels supported in making things right. You will also be responsible for creating a scheduling plan based on business workload and guest traffic, managing operational changes, and ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards. Overall, this role is about leading a team to deliver outstanding service and achieve sales goals while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create a guest-obsessed culture that prioritizes the guest experience and delivers on store sales goals
  • Anticipate staffing needs, talent plan and recruit - both long and short term
  • Manage leaders to follow up on training completion, check for understanding, and provide continuous education opportunities
  • Engage in consistent and meaningful development conversations throughout the critical touch points with Team leaders
  • Personalize recognition and appreciation to reinforce critical guest service behaviors and promote a positive team and guest centric culture
  • Establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management (observe, recognize and coach) on critical behaviors
  • Understand business reporting and guest insights to understand, troubleshoot and follow up on opportunity areas
  • Quickly respond to any negative guest shopping experience by de-escalating the situation and ensuring your team understands and feels supported to make things right for the guest
  • Create a scheduling plan in partnership with your Team Leaders based off of monthly and weekly business workload and guest traffic
  • Plan, manage and follow-up on organizational and operational change
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance. Lead team to work in the same way and hold others accountable to this commitment
  • As a key carrier, follow all safe and secure training and processes
  • Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.)
  • All other duties based on business needs

Requirements

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Manage conflict, lead and hold others accountable
  • Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis
  • Learn and adapt to current technology needs
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently and with a team
