About the position

As an Executive Team Leader (Assistant Store Manager) at Target, you will play a crucial role in creating a guest-obsessed culture that prioritizes the guest experience while delivering on store sales goals. This entry-level position, starting in Summer 2025, offers a unique opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a dynamic retail environment. You will be responsible for managing a team of hourly team members and leaders, ensuring that they are well-trained and equipped to provide exceptional service to our guests. Your role will involve setting and planning departmental workloads to support business priorities, as well as engaging in meaningful development conversations with your team to foster a culture of continuous improvement. In this position, you will anticipate staffing needs and talent plan for both the short and long term. You will manage leaders to ensure training completion and provide ongoing education opportunities. Your ability to personalize recognition and appreciation will reinforce critical guest service behaviors and promote a positive team culture. You will establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management, while also utilizing business reporting and guest insights to identify and address opportunity areas. As an Executive Team Leader, you will be expected to respond quickly to any negative guest shopping experiences, de-escalating situations and ensuring your team feels supported in making things right for the guest. You will create a scheduling plan in partnership with your Team Leaders based on business workload and guest traffic, and you will manage organizational and operational changes effectively. Your commitment to ethical conduct, safety, and compliance will be paramount as you lead your team to uphold these values. This role requires flexibility, as you will need to address store needs, including emergencies and regulatory visits, while also being prepared to take on additional duties as business needs arise.

Responsibilities

  • Create a guest-obsessed culture that prioritizes the guest experience and delivers on store sales goals
  • Anticipate staffing needs, talent plan and recruit - both long and short term
  • Manage leaders to follow up on training completion, check for understanding, and provide continuous education opportunities
  • Engage in consistent and meaningful development conversations throughout the critical touch points with Team leaders
  • Personalize recognition and appreciation to reinforce critical guest service behaviors and promote a positive team and guest centric culture
  • Establish a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management (observe, recognize and coach) on critical behaviors
  • Understand business reporting and guest insights to understand, troubleshoot and follow up on opportunity areas
  • Quickly respond to any negative guest shopping experience by de-escalating the situation and ensuring your team understands and feels supported to make things right for the guest
  • Create a scheduling plan in partnership with your Team Leaders based off of monthly and weekly business workload and guest traffic
  • Plan, manage and follow-up on organizational and operational change
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance. Lead team to work in the same way and hold others accountable to this commitment
  • As a key carrier, follow all safe and secure training and processes
  • Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.)
  • All other duties based on business needs

Requirements

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Manage conflict, lead and hold others accountable
  • Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis
  • Learn and adapt to current technology needs
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently and with a team
