About the position

The Executive Underwriter, Accident & Health position at Chubb involves managing a book of Participant Accident/Special Risk business, with a focus on achieving growth goals for new business while maintaining existing renewals. The individual in this role will be responsible for assisting in the renewal retention plan by issuing timely renewal notices and collaborating closely with brokers throughout the renewal life cycle, ensuring that updates are provided promptly. Underwriting duties will encompass risk analysis, developing and negotiating pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions for both new business and renewals, as well as delivering quotes and issuing policies. Maintaining underwriting discipline is crucial, which includes adhering to underwriting authority, guidelines, and directives. The individual will also ensure that data and document repository systems are complete and accurate. As a subject matter expert for Participant Accident/Special Risk, the Executive Underwriter will handle large referrals, serve as a resource for assigned regional offices, and assist in training new underwriters. Additionally, the role involves onboarding new programs, which includes rate and plan development, portfolio management, managing policy issuance, premium collection, and premium reporting processes. The Executive Underwriter will report metrics to management and partner with regional offices, actuarial, product development, and legal teams as necessary. The position also requires assisting the Segment Lead with strategies related to growth, operational efficiencies, policy filings, forecasting/planning, marketing, and communications. Building strong relationships with producers and conducting monthly underwriter audits are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Own a book of Participant Accident/Special Risk business with growth goals for new business and maintaining renewals.
  • Assist in achieving renewal retention by issuing timely renewal notices and working closely with brokers throughout the renewal life cycle.
  • Perform underwriting duties including risk analysis, developing and negotiating price/coverage/terms/conditions for new business and renewals, quote delivery, and policy issuance.
  • Maintain underwriting discipline by complying with underwriting authority, guidelines, and directives.
  • Ensure data and document repository systems are complete and accurate.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Participant Accident/Special Risk, handling large referrals and training new underwriters.
  • Assist with onboarding new programs, including rate and plan development, portfolio management, and managing policy issuance and premium processes.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in underwriting, specifically in Accident & Health or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in risk analysis and pricing negotiations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with brokers and producers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various teams including actuarial, product development, and legal.
  • Proficiency in data management and document repository systems.
