About the position

At Allianz Commercial (AzC), we are the global leader in insuring corporate and specialty risks within the Allianz Group. We cover a wide range of major risks, from aircraft and satellites to the world's largest ships and tallest buildings, as well as cyber-attacks and the impacts of climate change. We are currently seeking an Executive Underwriter based in New York or Chicago for a hybrid role. This position is crucial for underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet Line of Business (LoB) targets regionally, in accordance with established underwriting guidelines and authority. As an Executive Underwriter, you will participate in the development and execution of the regional Underwriting strategy for your designated LoB(s). You will work closely with Market Management, Claims, and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross-selling opportunities. Your responsibilities will include underwriting new and renewal accounts to meet both top and bottom line targets, negotiating prices and terms with producers, and ensuring compliance with the Financial Lines governance framework, including Underwriting Authorities and global MSU. In addition to underwriting responsibilities, you will proactively support the completion of policy administration and credit control processes. You will also play a key role in training, developing, and coaching less experienced staff, including Underwriters. Building and maintaining strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders, such as risk managers, will be essential to your success in this role. Your contributions will directly impact the acquisition of new business and the retention of existing clients, making this a pivotal position within our organization.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet Line of Business (LoB) targets regionally.
  • Participate in the development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB(s).
  • Work closely with Market Management, Claims, and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross-selling.
  • Negotiate price and terms and conditions with producers.
  • Underwrite in line with Financial Lines governance framework, including Underwriting Authorities and global MSU.
  • Proactively support the completion of policy administration and credit control processes.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB regionally.
  • Train, develop, and coach less experienced staff, including Underwriters.
  • Proactively support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, including client and producer negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience with a proven track record in underwriting profitable business in LoB.
  • Good understanding of LoB products and portfolio.
  • Established relationships with brokers at peer group level and within the market.
  • Understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • College degree preferably in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration.
  • Completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g. CII).
