About the position

The Hartford is seeking a Large Property Underwriter to join our expanding team, focusing on a diverse range of occupancies including manufacturing, municipalities, schools, healthcare, financial services, and real estate. This role is pivotal as it serves as the primary relationship manager and point of contact for multiple agents and brokers within an assigned territory. As part of a collaborative team, the Large Property Underwriter will engage in both new and renewal business production underwriting, providing specialized underwriting, insurance coverage, and risk management services that support the profitable growth of our dedicated practice. In this position, you will work closely with other underwriters and leaders, contributing your creative insights to the underwriting process. You will have the opportunity to collaborate on sales and marketing activities, demonstrating a strong customer focus while gaining a thorough understanding of The Hartford's Large Property unit's appetite and strategy. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager and point of contact for multiple agents/brokers within an assigned territory.
  • Collaborate with a team of Large Property underwriters to complete new and renewal business production underwriting.
  • Provide specialized underwriting, insurance coverage, and risk management services.
  • Identify key property agents/brokers and implement sales and marketing activities.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus and thorough understanding of The Hartford's Large Property unit's appetite and strategy.
  • Analyze data and employ critical thinking skills to make informed decisions.
  • Build relationships and trust among diverse groups.
  • Challenge the status quo and contribute to innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Executive Underwriter: 5+ years of commercial property underwriting and marketing experience.
  • Senior Underwriter: 3+ years of commercial property underwriting and marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think analytically about business problems and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering outcomes.
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
