About the position

The Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO) at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational departments of the organization. This position plays a critical role in advancing SPLC's strategic plan and vision, ensuring collaboration and coordination across teams, and enhancing the organization's systems, policies, and processes. The EVP/COO will also focus on risk assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure the sustainability and resilience of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic counsel to the President/CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Lead cross-departmental efforts and ensure ongoing communication and coordination.
  • Foster a positive working environment reflecting organizational values.
  • Support the EVP, Chief of Programs and Innovation in managing leadership meetings.
  • Oversee a high-performing executive team and ensure integration across departments.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies, structures, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks to ensure sustainability.

Requirements

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years in leadership roles with a track record of success managing executives.
  • At least seven (7) years managing a diverse and high-performing executive team.
  • Significant experience centering JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) values.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated success developing culture, systems, and processes for collaboration.
  • Proven track record of successful operational and financial management.
  • Professional maturity to manage conflict and sensitive information.
