About the position

The Exercise Specialist Coordinator in Outpatient Cardiology is responsible for performing cardiopulmonary stress testing and physiological evaluations, as well as providing patient education on heart-healthy lifestyle choices. This role involves planning and conducting graded exercise testing, monitoring patients' physiological responses, and collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care. The position also includes participation in research projects and the potential to assist in managing patients with implantable devices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiopulmonary stress testing and physiological evaluation.
  • Plan, develop, and conduct graded exercise testing.
  • Monitor patient's activity, physiological response, and adherence to exercise sessions.
  • Provide specific exercise prescriptions based on individual considerations.
  • Analyze external monitor findings and assist in management of patients with implantable devices.
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle principles.
  • Create and update educational materials as needed.
  • Assist with new employee orientation within the department.
  • Communicate and collaborate with healthcare team members for continuity of care.
  • Participate in research projects and committees/task forces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Science or related field.
  • Less than 2 years of relevant experience in conducting graded exercise testing and knowledge of cardiovascular physiology.
  • Basic electrocardiogram (EKG) knowledge or completion of an internship in Cardiac Rehab.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
  • CRT-Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days.
  • CRT-Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 1 year.
  • CRT-Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Certified (CEP) certification required within 180 days.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Science or related field.
