About the position

The Exercise Specialist at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is responsible for providing direct patient care and guidance to individuals with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. This role involves monitoring patients, instructing them on the proper use of exercise equipment, adjusting exercise prescriptions, and assessing patient responses to exercise. The Exercise Specialist also plays a key role in educating patients on lifestyle modifications and ensuring their safety during exercise sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and guidance to patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease.
  • Monitor patients and instruct them on the proper use of exercise equipment.
  • Adjust exercise prescriptions based on patient assessments and responses.
  • Assist in developing individualized treatment plans with collaborative patient goals.
  • Regularly review and reassess patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Report significant patient conditions to RN or RT and assist with emergent care as needed.
  • Conduct daily code cart and quality control checklists appropriately.
  • Ensure patient safety and demonstrate correct use of exercise equipment.
  • Maintain necessary equipment and supplies for service delivery.
  • Identify educational needs and provide necessary teaching to patients.
  • Conduct follow-up phone calls, insurance verification, and patient scheduling.
  • Communicate effectively with cardiopulmonary rehab staff and referring providers.
  • Monitor and interpret EKG/heart rhythms and perform charge entry accurately.
  • Promote cardiopulmonary rehab to potential patients.
  • Participate in team meetings and maintain core competencies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cardiovascular disease and ability to provide education on cardiac risk factors.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • BCLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 to 5 years of position-related experience.
  • ACLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association.
  • ACSM CEP Certification.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation class.
