About the position

The Expanded Learning Program Instructor at Life Academy Middle School is a part-time role focused on leading academic, physical, and enrichment activities for middle school students. The instructor will mentor up to 25 youth, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that prioritizes education equity and personal growth. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the community and supporting students' emotional well-being.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the emotional well-being of the students.
• Provide a safe environment for students.
• Be a positive role model for struggling students.
• Engage students in lesson plans that support school day learning.
• Run community circles based on restorative practices.
• Collaborate with youth to support their learning and development through a youth-driven curriculum.

Requirements

• No experience required.
• Must have an Associate Degree or higher, or 48 or more college units, or a High School Diploma or GED and pass the Instructional Aide exam.
• Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance.
• Ability to reliably commute to Oakland, CA.
• Commitment to education equity and leadership.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Availability on-site Mon/Wed/Fri from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
• Ability to redirect and review expectations and rules with large groups of students with various development levels.
• Previous experience coaching at the middle school or youth level.
• Ability to foster a positive and inclusive sports culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual growth.
• Punctuality, responsibility, and professionalism are a priority.
• Commitment to a full school year.
• Ability to practice open, clear, and consistent communication and commitment to participate in professional development.
