About the position

The Experience Designer at Industrial Light & Magic is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing immersive gaming experiences using advanced AR/VR technologies. This role involves collaboration with creative teams to enhance player experiences through innovative game design and mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary development team to conceptualize and develop game ideas that leverage the capabilities of AR/VR and other emerging technology.
  • Design game mechanics, features, and systems tailored specifically for next-generation, immersive experiences.
  • Create and iterate on game design documents, storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Utilize Unreal Engine and its Blueprint scripting system to implement and optimize gameplay mechanics, interactions, and user interactions.
  • Rapidly prototype game mechanics to test and iterate on gameplay concepts.
  • Gather feedback from playtesting sessions and use data-driven insights to refine game design elements.
  • Work closely with artists, programmers, and other team members to ensure seamless integration of design elements.
  • Collaborate with UI artists to create intuitive and immersive user interfaces for AR/VR and other immersive interactions.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging of games mechanics and overall user experience to ensure high performance and quality.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in entertainment design, game design, interaction design, new media design, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years professional experience as a game/level designer with demonstrable facility in the process & design of interactive experiences.
  • Proficient with at least one game engine (Unreal Engine preferred) and previous professional experience working with game engines.
  • Knowledge of design patterns related to user-centered interactive experiences & UI.
  • Ability to utilize metrics & data to enhance user experience based on analytics and community feedback.
  • Expert with standard design communication tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Visio / OmniGraffle.
  • Skilled with level design & media prototyping tools: Unity, Unreal, SketchUp, After Effects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional game engines beyond Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with AR/VR development tools and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
