About the position

The Actuarial Analyst position at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) is part of the Actuarial Leadership Development Program, aimed at supporting corporate strategy in areas such as competitiveness, affordability, profitability, and health care policy. The role involves analyzing data to identify trends and cost drivers in health care, developing visualizations, and making recommendations to improve care quality and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a rich dataset and a robust Enterprise Data Warehouse to identify emerging drivers of health care trend and cost, market pressures, and profitability.
  • Design compelling visualizations and build innovative models to influence and analyze new products, provider payment structures, and health care delivery mechanisms.
  • Make recommendations to various customers/departments.
  • Lead and/or assist in development of processes/analyses to determine financial performance or evaluate cost/benefit, ensuring consistent representation across the entire business.
  • Participate in determining objectives of significant projects or assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Math, Business, Healthcare or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience, preferably in healthcare or a related industry.
  • Minimum of 4 completed actuarial exams required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in data analysis/extraction/manipulation using tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience developing data visualization in tools such as Tableau and analytic automation (scripting, macros).

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to communicate (written & verbal) and collaborate with various business partners, including clinical and technical and non-technical staff.
  • Proven ability to constantly innovate.
  • Commitment to participate in the Actuarial Leadership Development Program and obtain FSA designation.
