About the position

The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Border Patrol Agent (BPA), a full-time position focused on protecting the American people by safeguarding borders and deterring illicit activities. This role offers excellent pay, federal benefits, and job stability, with opportunities for career advancement through a structured grade level progression. Responsibilities

  • Detecting, preventing, and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near land borders.
  • Maintaining surveillance from covert positions and responding to electronic sensor alarms.
  • Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence during operations.
  • Using infrared scopes during night operations and responding to aircraft sightings.
  • Performing farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
  • Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using various government assets.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this position.
  • Must have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Candidates must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection, with exceptions for veterans.
  • One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree for GL-5 grade level.
  • One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement for GL-7 grade level.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to GL-7 for GL-9 grade level, including law enforcement duties.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to GL-9 for GS-11 grade level, including leading investigations and utilizing complex technology.
