About the position

The Shipboard IT organization at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking experienced software developers to join a diverse team responsible for creating applications for Navy submarines and aircraft carriers. This role involves research, design, development, and lifecycle management of software applications, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and mentoring within the team. Developers will adhere to cybersecurity principles and engage in unit testing, contributing to the safety and reliability of naval nuclear operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high quality code adhering to cybersecurity principles
  • Perform unit testing
  • Participate in the software development lifecycle
  • Publish software documentation, including design, technical specifications, and end-user documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE
  • Development experience with C#, Java, or other programming languages
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices and software lifecycle models
  • Experience in automating tasks using a scripting language
  • Experience in developing automated unit tests
  • Experience in developing and deploying services in a Microsoft Operating System environment
  • Familiarity with database architectures

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in Engineering or Computer Science preferred
