About the position

The Electrical and Power Systems Engineer at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) is responsible for a variety of engineering assignments related to the planning, design, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance of power distribution and facility equipment and systems across various industrial and chemical facilities at the Savannah River Site. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, including low and medium voltage systems, and involves both hands-on design validation and oversight of complex engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering assignments for planning and overseeing development, design, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of power distribution and facility equipment and systems.
  • Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems.
  • Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals.
  • Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication.
  • Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area.
  • Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of distribution systems with voltages ranging from 120V to 13.8kV, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of electrical National Codes and Standards such as NFPA 70/70E and IEEE.
  • Experience in electrical system protection, coordination curves, load studies, and arc flash analysis.
  • Hands-on electrical design validation and verification experience.
  • Experience in low to medium voltage industrial power systems with voltage of 480V through 13.8kV.
  • Experience providing oversight, design, planning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of low and medium voltage systems infrastructure.
  • Experience performing modeling and simulation for power systems and short circuit analysis using simulation software platforms (e.g., ETAP).
  • Master or PhD degree in applicable science or engineering discipline.
