About the position

Kimley-Horn's Dallas office is seeking an Experienced Electrical Engineer or Analyst to join their MEP team. This role focuses on large-scale HVAC design and involves active participation in project teams, client interactions, and the preparation of essential project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team with large scale HVAC design.
  • Participate on project teams in an active production role.
  • Engage in project meetings internally and externally with clients.
  • Prepare project specifications and electrical construction cost estimates.
  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Coordinate and verify as-built drawings.
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention.
  • Coordinate with specialists for fire alarm, technology, and lighting design as required by project scope.
  • Work with architects and mechanical/plumbing engineers for equipment power needs and sizing electrical distribution.
  • Conduct electrical design calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules.
  • Develop reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of design experience in electrical engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus).
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 6 months required.
  • Firm understanding of the National Electrical Code, other NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes.
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD).
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM - Autodesk Revit) experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Power Analyses (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, device coordination) in SKM or ETAP.
  • Electrical power, lighting, and fire alarm design experience.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM - Autodesk Revit).
  • Advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering.
