About the position

The Advanced Technology Development group at KCNSC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead design and manufacturing efforts for parts, fixtures, and tools in support of advanced and complex engineering projects. In this role, you will integrate your experience with mechanical design, manufacturing, and machining knowledge to deliver successful results. This position includes exposure to additive manufacturing processes, polymer materials, research and development projects, and advanced 5-axis machine control. Relevant experience with any of these disciplines is a plus. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing new products and processes, special instruments, and unique equipment to meet specific customer requirements. You will also develop and assess production or inspection operations and sequences, equipment, tooling gauges, or acceptance equipment and processing methods required to manufacture or inspect complex components and assemblies. Your role will involve translating design agency concepts into production items by coordinating the activities of engineering, quality, manufacturing, and related organizations. In addition, you will estimate set-up times, operating times, and flow times, as well as production and acceptance needs. Compiling cost estimates and delivery quotations, monitoring performance, and preparing reports, statistics, and recommendations for management review will also be part of your responsibilities. You will plan and perform engineering testing and development programs, using advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems and to assure product manufacturability. Your analytical skills will be crucial as you analyze processes, products, and inspection records to anticipate, identify, and correct problems and to establish quality levels and trends. You will refine product definitions based on knowledge of manufacturing capability to ensure that released designs can be produced. Additionally, you will determine the acceptability of products and materials in conjunction with design agencies and other affected organizations, interact with design agencies and suppliers to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues, and provide project leadership and technical guidance on complex engineering projects. Safety is paramount, and you will conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, working in accordance with established ES&H requirements to ensure the protection of associates, the public, and the environment.
