About the position

The Experienced Total Loss Claim Representative at Travelers is responsible for managing Personal and Business insurance Auto and Specialty/Heavy Equipment Total Loss claims from resolution to payment. This role involves applying relevant laws and statutes across multiple state jurisdictions, collaborating with appraisal experts to determine claim values, and ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards. The representative will deliver consistent service quality throughout the claim lifecycle, handle coverage analysis, conduct investigations, manage settlements, and maintain appropriate reserves.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Personal and Business insurance Auto and Specialty/Heavy Equipment Total Loss claims through resolution and payment process.
  • Deliver consistent service quality throughout the claim lifecycle, including prompt contact and ongoing communication.
  • Review coverage determinations and recognize additional coverage issues.
  • Gather supporting documents necessary to negotiate and settle claims.
  • Manage Total Loss settlement process and rental expenses by coordinating with appraisers and vendors.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate claim and expense reserves.
  • Negotiate settlement amounts and convey claim settlements within authority limits.
  • Write denial letters and necessary correspondence to insureds and claimants.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED with a minimum of one year auto claim handling experience or successful completion of Travelers Claim Representative training program required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2 years auto claim handling experience preferred.
  • Prior experience handling Total Loss claims is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer-centric response to tasks.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
  • Attention to detail ensuring accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict.
  • Intermediate keyboard skills and proficiency in Windows, including Excel and Word.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate analytical thinking and judgment/decision-making skills.
  • Intermediate negotiation skills.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance contracts, value determination, and settlement techniques.
