About the position
The Experienced Transmission Line Designer position at Sargent & Lundy offers an opportunity to utilize and expand design skills in a collaborative environment. The role involves working with a multi-disciplined team to develop transmission and distribution line drawings and designs, applying computer-aided drafting skills, and receiving hands-on training in 3D design software. The designer will create detailed plans, profiles, and hardware details while collaborating with engineering staff and interfacing with vendors and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Develop transmission line plans and profile drawings.
- Create transmission/distribution line hardware details and material lists.
- Prepare grounding details and master sketches to scale.
- Confer with engineering staff to interpret specifications and calculations.
- Assist project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather design information.
- Explain drawings to vendors and construction contractors for design adjustments.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in drafting or a high school diploma with 1+ years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- 2+ years of experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and drawings.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer aid.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Attention to detail.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience using Microstation, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or GIS software.
