About the position

The Workover Rig Operator is responsible for operating a workover rig, supervising a crew, and ensuring customer satisfaction with all services. This role involves performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells while adhering to safety regulations and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a crew of three to five members performing maintenance and repairs on oil and gas wells.
  • Ensure all crew members are punctual and prepared for work.
  • Drive the crew truck to job sites.
  • Operate the rig safely in accordance with DOT regulations and customer specifications.
  • Operate power swivel and perform pipe handling tasks such as pulling and laying down rods, tubing, and casing.
  • Accurately perform torque calculations and specifications.
  • Conduct pipe tallying, rigging up and down, and BOP unit handling.
  • Perform required inspections on workover rig, fall arrest systems, derrick, and mud pumps.
  • Check brake systems and confirm their functionality.
  • Conduct BOP inspections, testing, and installations as needed.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and recognize worn equipment, submitting repair requests as necessary.
  • Maintain the assigned rig and crew truck efficiently.
  • Instruct floorhands and derrickhands on the use of rig and pumping equipment and safety equipment.
  • Keep the work site, equipment, and tools clean and in good working order.
  • Understand job steps and arrange rods and tubing in the derrick correctly.
  • Understand the rig's hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Maintain communication with the Customer and Rig Supervisor.
  • Adhere to productivity standards and government regulations for compliance.
  • Complete and submit field tickets and enter crew hours into the time tracking system.
  • Assist in shop work or NDES Yard maintenance when necessary.
  • Assist in repairs and preparation of workover rig for deployment when necessary.
  • Train new crew members, specifically Floorhand-SSE's.
  • Attend and participate in daily and monthly safety meetings.
  • Comply with company, customer, and health/safety policies, reporting incidents to the Rig Supervisor.
  • Work in all weather conditions as required.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. and handle physically demanding work.
  • Effective oral and basic written communication skills.
  • Pass a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol screening and participate in random testing.
  • Pass a background check and motor vehicle record check.
  • Arrange for reliable transportation to and from work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous workover experience preferred.
