About the position

The Experiential Life Skills Training Coordinator at Compass Connections is responsible for designing and implementing individualized life skills plans for children aged 5 to 17. This role involves coordinating activities, maintaining a safe learning environment, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance the educational experience of the service population. The coordinator will also track progress and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Design individualized, age-appropriate life skills plans for children ages 5 through 17.
  • Develop and maintain a Monthly Activity Calendar for children in collaboration with the foster care school team.
  • Coordinate volunteer and church group participation and activities with outside resources and Program Director approval.
  • Maintain an inventory and purchase necessary supplies and equipment for experiential life skills training.
  • Participate in community and staff meetings and assist with meetings, special events, support groups, and other activities as a member of the school program staff.
  • Track and provide educational information and statistics for quarterly reports.
  • Use positive child management techniques including verbal redirection and de-escalation, and positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for children.
  • Document children's progress in activities and provide updates during weekly and monthly meetings or reports as needed.
  • Implement Compass Connections safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services preferred.
  • At least one year of progressive employment experience in supervisory, training, case management, or teaching roles.
  • Certifications in First Aid and CPR are required.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing effective, hands-on leadership.
  • Knowledge of current educational best practices for the service population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a must.
  • Experience in developing and presenting life skills curriculum.
  • Familiarity with community resources for life skills training.
