About the position

ManTech is seeking a motivated Expert CNO Systems Engineer to join our team in Hanover, MD. This role involves applying systems engineering principles throughout the systems life cycle phases, including planning, building, testing, deploying, operating, and monitoring. The engineer will be a key member of a leadership team, responsible for modernizing the architecture of operational systems and interfacing with government customers to validate technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the technical strategy to modernize the architecture of an operational system.
  • Interface with Government customers to validate technical direction of the program.
  • Identify process improvements across the systems lifecycle using industry best practices.
  • Act as Change Agent and Agile Coach for the team.
  • Define and integrate tools to automate the software development, maintenance, and delivery of a complex system including Release Planning, CI/CD pipeline, metrics and monitoring, and Configuration Management.
  • Ensure compliance with chosen processes and tools across multiple Agile teams and assist in their implementation and use.
  • Participate in team meetings, Daily Scrums, and system demos.
  • Perform analysis of technical alternatives for a project and make preliminary recommendations.
  • Ability to create architectural designs as required.

Requirements

  • 14 years of system engineering experience OR a bachelor's degree with 10 years of system engineering experience OR a master's degree plus 8 years of system engineering experience.
  • Minimum 6 years work experience serving in a software development environment supporting multiple development teams.
  • Ability to work with senior technical staff and government team to optimize and improve processes and quality practices.
  • Solid understanding of DevSecOps processes and tools.
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills.
  • Strong Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Atlassian Confluence and Jira.
  • System Engineering Experience in DevSecOps environment.
  • Ability to keep track of and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to take common work issues in stride instead of being easily rattled and proactively address issues as they arise.
  • Ability to put out fires while respecting team members, staying level-headed during difficult situations.
  • Ability to be accountable for the team when mistakes happen and focus the team on learning from the experience.
