About the position

The Expert IT Project Manager will lead a team in developing and enhancing IT technical architecture and infrastructure systems within PG&E's Grid and Control Center technology department. This role involves managing project portfolios, ensuring alignment with business goals, and acting as a liaison between IT and business clients throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires advanced project management skills to oversee complex projects, manage financials, and address risks and issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Forecast project resource, material, and contract costs accurately using PG&E tools.
  • Assess project performance and implement necessary changes to meet cost, schedule, scope, and quality objectives.
  • Define and communicate roles, responsibilities, and expectations for project team members.
  • Communicate project status to stakeholders and management.
  • Conduct site visits and project kick-off meetings as necessary.
  • Coordinate required contract work within PG&E policy.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with project sponsors, vendors, and key clients.
  • Create and maintain detailed project schedules and work plans.
  • Develop metrics and procedures to assess project progress against established standards.
  • Drive all project-related tasks to completion and ensure team members have necessary tools and training.
  • Mentor less experienced project managers and plan work to meet project goals.
  • Monitor critical project milestones and resolve schedule issues.
  • Prepare project documentation for closure and auditing activities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience managing complex IT product/software development cycles/projects.
  • Experience with IT professional service agreements and materials logistics.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years of Grid & Control Center Technology experience.
  • 3-5 years of Electric Utility experience.
  • Experience managing large budgets ($100k to $10M+).
  • Advanced understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
  • Workforce planning and resource management skills.
  • Scrum Master experience.
  • Experience working in a PMO environment as Project Lead or Project Manager for highly complex projects.
