About the position

The Expert Technical Writer position at Serco Inc. involves supporting the US Government by preparing and maintaining technical documentation, user guides, and manuals. The role requires collaboration with developers and engineers to produce quality documentation for various programs and projects, particularly in the defense sector. The position is contingent upon maintaining a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and focuses on delivering business expertise in contracts, finance, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, and manuals.
  • Gather technical information and prepare written text.
  • Maintain a current internal documentation library.
  • Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials.
  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences.
  • Coordinate layout and design of documents.
  • Research highly technical subject matter and express technical information in written form.
  • Write technical copy for various types of documents under general direction.
  • Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, and training manuals.
  • Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings to understand and blend large quantities of information.
  • Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing for all phases of documentation.
  • Act as project leader for projects with complex documentation.

Requirements

  • An active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Eight (8) years as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six years of experience.
  • Four (4) years of additional Technical Writing experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
