About the position

The Explosives Safety Engineer at Astrion plays a crucial role in supporting the Army Division by providing matrixed support to NATO's Explosive Safety Munitions Risk Management (ESMRM) Working Panel. This position involves working with a specialized team focused on the test and evaluation, sustainment, and demilitarization of various ordnance components, including solid rocket motors and warheads. The role requires extensive travel, particularly to NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and demands a high level of expertise in weapon system engineering and management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement terms of reference and the annual work plan for NATO's Ammunition Working Group.
  • Implement NATO ESMRM requirements by participating in JFC ESMRM planning conferences to integrate NATO ESMRM requirements.
  • Maintain and update NATO ESMRM doctrine and policy.
  • Provide recurring ESMRM training through NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) and on-site training to JFCs, JSEC, ACO and NATO nations.
  • Lead ESMRM assessments across NATO nations and generate reports in support of NATO and host nations' munitions risk decisions.
  • Represent the DDESB Executive Director at NATO forums when the DDESB ED is not available.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., MS, or BS Degree in a recognized engineering or scientific discipline.
  • 10 years of experience with a Ph.D., 15 years with an MS, or 20 years with a BS in complex weapon system engineering, design, analysis, performance, or test and evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • At least 2 years of managerial/supervisory experience.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Spreadsheet, Word Processor, Database, & Email.
  • Previous knowledge of and familiarity with the NATO ESMRM Working Panel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing the annual work plan for NATO's Ammunition Working Group.
  • Experience implementing NATO ESMRM requirements and maintaining/updating NATO ESRM doctrine/policy.
  • Experience providing ESMRM training to JFCs, JSEC, ACO, and NATO nations.
