About the position

The Explosives Safety Specialist will serve in the Department of the Navy, focusing on the management and implementation of explosives safety programs for both afloat and ashore operations. This role involves providing technical support for compliance decisions, assessing safety hazards, and recommending control measures to ensure safe handling and storage of explosives. The position requires a strong understanding of explosives safety policies and the ability to evaluate a wide range of explosives operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Inspection Program Manager for the Department of the Navy Afloat and Shore Explosives Safety Programs.
  • Provide technical support to the Fleet regarding explosives safety compliance decisions.
  • Implement the Department of the Navy Explosives Safety Inspection programs and contribute to the development of explosives safety policies.
  • Assess and evaluate afloat/ashore explosives safety hazards and recommend control measures.
  • Identify and evaluate the complete range of weapons and explosives materials to assess hazards in various operations.
  • Manage components of explosives safety programs, including ordnance safety precautions and security procedures.
  • Recommend changes to the Department of the Navy's implementation of explosives safety policies based on risk assessment principles.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13) level in federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector managing an explosives safety program.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate explosives safety hazards and recommend control measures.
  • Must qualify as a Level 300 Navy Explosives Safety Specialist within two years of appointment.

Nice-to-haves
