About the position

The Explosive Safety Officer will oversee the explosive safety program at the Marshall Space Flight Center and Michoud Assembly Facility. This role involves managing safety protocols, providing expert advice on explosive safety matters, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The officer will also foster a culture of safety and inclusiveness within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage components of explosives safety program(s) including ordnance safety precautions, security procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Coordinate and concur with requests for deviations and waivers, serving as the approval/validation authority for all explosive licenses.
  • Advise Center management on the programmatic health of the Explosives/Propellants/Pyrotechnic Safety Program.
  • Conduct spot inspections of test operations and monitor pyrotechnics for safety compliance.
  • Resolve technical matters related to explosives/ordnance safety requirements, including marking, packaging, storage, and shipping.
  • Serve as a member of an explosive safety qualification certification board.
  • Promote a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence, and innovation.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in explosives safety management.
  • Experience verifying quality of materials and supplies to meet NASA's mission requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with outside agencies on the movement of explosive/pyrotechnic materials.
  • Experience providing oversight and implementation of explosive safety and quality processes.
