About the position

The Program Assistant II position at the University of Tennessee, Institute of Agriculture, is a full-time role based in Lawrence County, Tennessee. This position is integral to the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP), which aims to enhance the health and nutrition of residents through community engagement and education. The successful candidate will collaborate with various community and state-level partners to implement specific program components, ensuring that comprehensive health, nutrition, and physical activity programs are effectively delivered in community settings. In this role, the Program Assistant will assist in providing resources, training, and technical assistance to support the TNCEP's goals. This includes developing and maintaining an active coalition of county agencies, organizations, industries, businesses, and individuals to address the nutritional and physical activity needs of all county residents. The position requires maintaining and growing positive partnerships with local organizations, vendors, and the general public, which is crucial for the success of the TNCEP grant objectives. Additionally, the Program Assistant will be involved in community needs assessments and evaluation requirements, providing leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele, regardless of their background. The role may also include other duties as assigned, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and teamwork in achieving program goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with community and state-level partners to implement specific program components of the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP).
  • Assist in the provision of resources, training, and technical assistance to ensure comprehensive health, nutrition, and physical activity programs in community settings.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an active coalition of County agencies, organizations, industries, businesses, and individuals to address the nutritional and physical activity needs of all county residents.
  • Maintain and grow positive partnerships with local organizations, vendors, agencies, and the general public in support of the TNCEP grant goals.
  • Assist with community needs assessments and evaluation requirements as needed.
  • Provide leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, or veteran status.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Tennessee driver's license is required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Teaching skills, communication skills, and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Clear background check is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with the local community and the low-income audience are essential.
  • Preference given to individuals who are members of the community to be served.
  • Skilled in using a series of hands-on, interactive lessons and committed to delivering sound evidence-based instruction.
  • Ability to influence behaviors and impact the lives of those that are taught.
  • Dedicated to reaching diverse, low-income populations.
  • Ability to recruit audience members and develop community partnerships.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, audiences, partners, and Extension professionals are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software programs for communication, reporting, and training.
