About the position

The Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development in Hopkins County will lead and manage the 4-H youth development programs, focusing on community and school-based initiatives. The role involves recruiting and training volunteers, developing councils and committees, and ensuring equal participation in programs for all youth and adults. The agent will disseminate practical information related to agriculture, family consumer sciences, and community development, while also adhering to state laws regarding background checks and child safety.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a well-rounded program that develops youth through school and community-based programs.
  • Recruit and train volunteers and leaders to work with youth.
  • Utilize and/or develop councils, advisory groups, and committees for programming.
  • Support the dissemination of information on agriculture, family consumer sciences, and community development.
  • Ensure equal opportunity for all youth and adults to participate in Extension programs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals.
  • Ability to use a computer for program delivery and management.
  • Ability to visit clientele at various sites throughout the county.
  • Ability to plan and teach educational programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to serve as a positive role model.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Social Science, or similar field of study.
