The Operator, Extruder II is a high-skill role at Southwire Company, LLC, responsible for setting up and operating extrusion lines and related equipment, including nylon extruders, coilers, pay-offs, and take-ups, whether manual or automatic. This position may involve operating single or two-person lines depending on the complexity of the line or product. Commonly operated machines under this job title include Jacket/Romex and Tandem Lines (BWP), Circuit Size THHN Extruder, and Jacket/Romex Lines (North Campus). The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and effective communication with supervisors and peers. Operators must be able to lift heavy loads and stand for extended periods while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. They are responsible for ensuring the proper setup of extrusion lines, maintaining correct wire size, insulation thickness, and concentricity, and applying the correct print of acceptable quality on cables. Operators will also be required to follow safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to environmental rules and procedures. The job demands physical activity, including lifting, pushing, and standing, and operators must be prepared to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat and cold. In addition to the primary responsibilities, operators will engage in cross-training on equipment within their workgroup and may be required to fill in for absent colleagues.
