About the position

The F-35 WIPT Software Integration Engineer position is a full-time role located at Eglin AFB, Florida, specifically designed for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Weapons Integration Product Team (WIPT). This role involves providing comprehensive software engineering support for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of all weapon software-related tasks necessary for the integration and certification of the F-35A (USAF), F-35B (USMC), and F-35C (USN) weapon systems. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all software development activities comply with F-35 requirements documents and adhere to best software engineering practices. In this position, the engineer will work closely with a team of F-35 Weapon Integrators, monitoring and evaluating software development activities to ensure they follow standardized processes. The role requires maintaining oversight of software sustainment for all assigned F-35 Weapon Integration tasks and coordinating aircraft integration activities with the roadmaps of the Weapon Program Offices. The engineer will also track weapon software updates, provide recommendations for testing required for updated certifications, and review all relevant aircraft and weapon software documentation to offer engineering assessments and recommendations for certification. Additionally, the engineer will support various meetings, including Joint Interface Control Working Group (JICWG) meetings, Program Management Reviews (PMR), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), and IPT status meetings. They will serve as the government interface manager for assigned weapon system software integration when necessary. The role also involves reviewing Developmental Test (DT) flight clearances regarding software stores functional assessment and providing recommendations to the government on these clearances. The engineer will coordinate and participate in lab, ground, and flight tests, ensuring that all test plans, procedures, and results align with the required data inputs. Monthly inputs to F-35 Air Vehicle / Mission Systems (AV/MS) briefings to leadership will also be part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and monitor F-35 aircraft/weapon integration software-related activities for compliance with F-35 requirements documents and best software engineering practices.
  • Support team of F-35 Weapon Integrators: monitor, evaluate and provide technical recommendations to ensure software development activities follow standardized processes.
  • Maintain software sustainment oversight for all assigned F-35 Weapon Integration tasks.
  • Coordinate and synchronize aircraft integration activities with relative roadmaps of the Weapon Program Offices.
  • Track all weapon software updates via spreadsheets and provide recommendations for testing required for updated certifications with new weapon software.
  • Review all pertinent aircraft and weapon software documentation and provide engineering assessments and recommendations for certification.
  • Support Joint Interface Control Working Group (JICWG) meetings, Program Management Reviews (PMR), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM) and IPT status meetings as required.
  • Serve as government interface manager for assigned weapon system software integration when required.
  • Review Developmental Test (DT) flight clearances regarding software stores functional assessment and provide recommendation to Government on concurrence or rejection of DT clearances.
  • Coordinate and participate in lab, ground and flight tests. Monitor, review and comment on test plans, test procedures and test results.
  • Prepare monthly inputs to F-35 Air Vehicle / Mission Systems (AV/MS) briefings to leadership.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain program security clearances throughout employment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or STEM related field plus 10 years relevant experience in a Weapon or Aircraft Program Management Office (PMO).
  • Demonstrated experience of 5+ years integrating airborne weapons systems, including systems/software engineering, test, and/or program management expertise.
  • Working knowledge of DoD acquisition lifecycle process & relevancy to assigned weapon(s) system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fighter aircraft weapons, practices and policies is preferable.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze a variety of weapons program information, make sound judgments concerning weapons, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to senior military and government leadership.
  • Good briefing, interpersonal and/or diplomatic skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of fighter aircraft weapons, practices and policies is preferable.
