The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking a Fisheries and Wildlife Biological Scientist III to lead aquaculture efforts at the Florida Bass Conservation Center. This role involves independent and collaborative work in managing fish culture practices, ensuring the production of freshwater fishes, and contributing to conservation efforts. The incumbent will oversee a team, develop methodologies, and communicate findings to various stakeholders, all while working in a dynamic team environment.

  • Plan, lead, and execute the production of freshwater fishes to meet annual goals.
  • Coordinate with local and regional staff for pond allocation, preparation, monitoring, and harvesting.
  • Develop, evaluate, and communicate aquaculture methodologies to further production goals.
  • Supervise a team including 1 Sr. Fisheries Technician, 2 Fisheries Technicians, and 2 OPS Fisheries Technicians.
  • Prepare administrative and technical reports based on study activities.
  • Participate in inter- and intra-agency teams dealing with resource management issues.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
  • 6 years of professional experience in a closely-related biological field or laboratory program is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in a life or physical science with 2 years of professional experience in aquaculture is preferred.
  • A master's degree in a life or physical science, preferably in fisheries/aquaculture sciences, is also preferred.
  • Experience in agriculture, aquaculture, fish culture, fisheries science/management, aquatic ecology, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques relevant to aquaculture production.
  • Skill in writing technical and popular articles.
