About the position

GDIT is seeking an F5 Network Engineer to support our Operations Team and join our JSP ETM-NG (Joint Service Provider Enterprise Transport Management - Next Gen) contract at the Pentagon. This role requires the employee to report full-time onsite in Arlington, VA. As an F5 Network Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, oversight, and direction to the Core Transport Network Engineering team. You will mentor and instruct network engineers on best practices and the execution of network enhancements, upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts in a large and complex network environment. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the health and maintenance of a large networking infrastructure, which encompasses providing network administration and operational support to over 8000 networked devices. In this position, you will be responsible for comprehensive network administration, security enhancements, and remediation, as well as troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, load balancers, VPNs, 802.11 Wireless, and VoIP. A strong understanding of best practices pertaining to network security is essential, as you may be required to develop, deploy, and integrate network security services. The F5 Network Engineer should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. Your impact as an F5 Network Engineer will be significant. You will act as a subject-matter expert in network routing and switching, as well as network performance monitoring and troubleshooting. You will review the completion and implementation of system additions and enhancements, making recommendations to management and clients. Additionally, you will evaluate new applications, infrastructure, and cloud decisions in the context of existing applications, infrastructure, standards, and business strategies. You will provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced IT staff and may have supervisory responsibilities. Your role will also involve serving as a liaison with senior clients to ensure their needs are met, providing problem and incident resolution, and deploying and maintaining network hardware and services in accordance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to the Core Transport Network Engineering team.
  • Mentor and instruct network engineers on best practices and execution of network enhancements and upgrades.
  • Ensure the health and maintenance of a large networking infrastructure supporting over 8000 devices.
  • Provide comprehensive network administration, security enhancements, and troubleshooting of network devices.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in network routing and switching, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Review completion and implementation of system additions and enhancements, making recommendations to management and clients.
  • Evaluate new applications, infrastructure, and cloud decisions in the context of existing standards and business strategies.
  • Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced IT staff and may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Serve as a liaison with senior clients to ensure their needs are met.
  • Provide problem and incident resolution, including dealing with vendor technical support.
  • Deploy and maintain network hardware, peripherals, services, and settings according to industry standards.
  • Perform daily system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of networking hardware and services.
  • Document and conduct changes during ASI windows.
  • Provide leadership in on-call troubleshooting and issue resolution as required.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Security team to identify and remediate application and operating system vulnerabilities.
  • Develop scripts and automation solutions for migration and integration tasks.
  • Review problems to understand root causes and ensure proper fixes are implemented.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years of related information technology experience.
  • 3+ years experience supporting DOD, DISA, or JSP Network environments.
  • Expert knowledge of information technology principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Experience with F5 load balancers, including troubleshooting, configuring, upgrading, and monitoring.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting, managing, and monitoring Cisco and Juniper routers and switches.
  • Extensive experience in Software Defined Networks (SDN).
  • Broad understanding of network infrastructure topologies, security policies, firewalls, and L2/L3 switch and router infrastructure.
  • Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network systems and protocols such as TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN, and 802.1x.
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large multi-site environment.
  • Experience with network security, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience using network management and analysis tools such as SNMP probes, network taps, and traffic analyzers.
  • Experience with Network Management & Performance platforms such as NetScout, IBM NetCool, Solarwinds NMS products, NetBrain, Infovista, Clearpass, Aruba, Arista.
  • Experience building configurations using CLI.
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience creating scripts to automate routine administration tasks.
