About the position

The Fabric Worker at Navy Exchange is responsible for modifying, altering, and repairing clothing, particularly military uniforms. This role involves handling military ornamentation, ensuring proper garment fit, and managing laundry services for patrons. The position requires a blend of sewing skills and customer service, as well as maintaining a clean and organized working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Modifies, alters, and repairs clothing, including military and civilian garments.
  • Takes customer body measurements to ensure proper garment fit.
  • Receives special orders for affixing military insignia and measures correct placements.
  • Operates a sewing machine and maintains a clean working area.
  • Handles laundry and dry cleaning services, completing necessary tickets and managing pick-ups.
  • Operates a cash register and prepares daily sales reports.
  • Maintains adequate stock supplies and assists in inventory taking.
  • Provides courteous service to customers and responds to inquiries.

Requirements

  • One year of general experience in clothing modifications, alterations, and repairs.
  • Knowledge and skill in using a sewing machine for garment alterations and repairs.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school education may substitute for some experience.
